Jimmy Fallon, who dances onstage alongside equally impressed “SNL” alums Maya Rudolph and Chris Rock, talked about the experience last year on “The Tonight Show.”

“All of a sudden, the crowd parts and there’s purple smoke and the dude, just floating towards the stage,” he said.

“Dearly inebriated,” Prince said to the Plaza Hotel crowd before launching into “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Among the other stars who partied on stage that night were Bill Murray, Emma Stone, members of HAIM and Martin Short.

[Editor's note: The Prince performance later aired during the "SNL" tribute to the artist. Below, you can watch Jimmy Fallon's remembrance of the story behind the footage.]
