sugarland 290 2010 Grammy Nominations live blog minute by minute coverage of Maxwell, Sugarland and more!Tune in here at 9 pm ET/ 6 pm PT for Zap2it’s live blog of the 2010 Grammy Nominations Concert on CBS, hosted by LL Cool J and featuring performances by Maxwell, Sugarland and the Black Eyed Peas.

Everybody ready for the Grammy nominations concert?! It certainly is hilarious that an announcement of the nominees has become such a hoopla-filled show, but here we are.

9:03 — LL Cool J welcomes us with a Grammy rap song. I suppose other awards shows kick us off with songs, so I’ll allow it, though some of these rhyme schemes are a bit suspect.

9:06 — I’m not sure this IS the coolest party in December, LL Cool.

9:07 — Black Eyed Peas sing “I Gotta Feeling.” This song is everywhere! Seriously, it’s the sports song, it’s the TV promo song. I fully expect my church to have this in the Christmas Eve lineup.

9:08 — I do like the different stars singing along, that was cute. Hey, I saw Adam Lambert in there. Did you hear ABC kicked him off two more programs? Oh yeah, they did.

george lopez 2010 Grammy Nominations live blog minute by minute coverage of Maxwell, Sugarland and more!9:12 — George Lopez reveals the Song of the Year nominees: “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce, “Use Somebody” by Tiger Woods Kings of Leon and “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift. Okay, that Tiger joke was funny.

9:15 — That Hershey’s-kisses-as-hand-bells ad campaign? Genius. I love it every holiday season.

9:18 — Sugarland performs “Coming Home” from the LA Live plaza. I like Jennifer Nettles voice quite a bit, that lady can really sing.

9:21 — Linkin Park reveals the nominees for Best Pop Performance by a Group/Duo with vocals: Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, The Fray, Daryl Hall & John Oates, and MGMT .

9:24 — Nick Jonas and The Administration perform “Who I Am” and… I’m not impressed.  Nick Jonas has a pretty thin voice. Hmmm. Sorry, I’ve never really paid much attention to the Jonas Brothers, seeing as how I am over the age of 14.

9:32 — Michael Jackson tribute. Sigh. Don’t get me wrong, I love MJ’s music but my god, there has been a lot of this stuff.

maxwell wire 2010 Grammy Nominations live blog minute by minute coverage of Maxwell, Sugarland and more!9:33 — Maxwell performs “The Lady in My Life.”  It’s very pretty, but an interesting choice for a tribune. I enjoy the song, but it’s definitely one of MJ’s more obscure pieces.

9:38 — Katy Perry reveals the Best Rock Album nominees: “Black Ice” by AC/DC, “Live from Madison Square Garden” by Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, “21st Century Breakdown” by Green Day, “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” by the Dave Matthews Band and “No Line on the Horizon” by U2.

9:39 — DMB and U2 are “rock?”

9:40 — Best Rap Solo Performance nominees are presented by Lil’ Wayne: Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi and Mos Def.

9:46 — Dwight Yoakam is here to reveal the Best Country Performance by a Duo/Group with Vocals: Brooks & Dunn, Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts and Sugarland.

9:50 — Smokey Robinson and Ringo Starr reveal Record of the Year nominees: “Halo” by Beyonce, “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon,” “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga and “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift.

9:52 — What is the difference between Song and Record of the year?

Ringo_Mock.jpg9:53 — I love Smokey Robinson, scary plastic surgery and all. I thought Adam Lambert’s “Tracks of My Tears” was his best Idol performance last year. Because I have the musical taste of a 57 year-old. It’s okay, I’m fine with it. Did you know RIngo Starr played the Mock Turtle in my favorite adaptation (so far) of “Alice in Wonderland?” Yes, he did.

9:55 — Album of the Year nominees: Beyonce’s “I am Sasha Fierce,” Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.”, Lady Gaga for “The Fame,” DMB for “Big Whiskey” and Taylor Swift for “Fearless”

9:59 — Black Eyed Peas performs again. The same song, no less. Sigh.

How did the predictions fare? The LA Times only got 2 out of 5 of the Album of the Year nominees (Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift). The Dave Matthews Band didn’t even hit their radar. Similarly, MTV only got 2 out of 5 of the Song of the Year nominees right (Beyonce and Taylor Swift). Looks like there were some surprises tonight.
