robert todd harrell mugshot 3 Doors Down bassist Robert Todd Harrell charged with vehicular homicideRobert Todd Harrell, bassist for the band 3 Doors Down, has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after a car accident that took the life of a fellow motorist, reports the AP.

The accident happened late Friday night (April 19) outside Nashville. Police say Harrell was traveling west on Interstate 40 at a high rate of speed when his car clipped a pickup truck being driven by 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr.

The truck hit a guardrail and went down an embankment, landing upside down. Shoulders was thrown from the vehicle, as he was not wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Harrell’s car hit a retaining wall about a quarter mile from Shoulders’ accident site and stopped. The police say Harrell showed signs of impairment when he was given field sobriety tests. They also said that he “acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax.”

The police say Harrell was further charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail, as a plastic bag was discovered concealed in his sock. It contained Xanax, Oxycodone and Oxymorphone pills.

Harrell currently remains in custody and faces a court appearance on Thursday, April 25.
