If your ABC drama and reality television isn’t quite funny enough, the network has you covered. It has released two new videos on its ABC.comedy website, featuring Taye Diggs of “Private Practice” and Bruno Tonioli of “Dancing with the Stars.” You can watch both here.
The first of the new videos available to us from ABC.comedy shows what happens when a talented and successful star of stage, screen and television tries out a new genre. The result? “Taye Diggs Destroys Hip-Hop.”
Maybe it isn’t the funniest short story ever to grace the Internet. But this video allows us to enjoy the visual and auditory beauty that is Taye Diggs — so who cares?
Alas, it turns out that the thespian has mistaken “rap” for an abbreviation of “rhapsody.” It doesn’t work out so well. This new career probably never would though. As Diggs’ rap mentor and potential partner puts it: “There’s something about his smile. It’s too perfect.”
You know what’s really scary about all of this? Even though the adoring record executive is part of the joke, I could totally see some legitimate hip-hop artist sampling the Gershwin-Lloyd-Webber-Rodgers-Hammerstein-infused voice of Diggs. That could work.
The second video shifts over to the “Dancing with the Stars” world and the colorful bombast of one of the show’s judges, Bruno Tonioli. This is “Bruno Tonioli’s Writer’s Room.”
Of course, there is a flaw inherent to the joke made in this video: No writer would ever want to take credit for the insanity that spews from Bruno’s mouth during his “DWTS” judging. If that’s not ad-lib, we should all be terrified.
Still, anything that features a montage of Bruno Tonioli comments is worth watching.
