elizabeth vargas re enters rehab ABC News' Elizabeth Vargas re enters rehab: 'I am committed to battling' alcoholismABC News correspondent Elizabeth Vargas re-entered rehab this past weekend, her rep confirms to E! Online.

“While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center. As so many other recovering alcoholics
know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult
process,” says Vargas in a statement. “I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my
family down, and for that I am ashamed and sorry. I am
committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want
to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this
trying time.”

A spokesperson for ABC says in a statement, “Nothing is more important than Elizabeth’s health and well-being, and we stand squarely behind her. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth and her family, and we look forward to having her back at ABC when she feels ready to return.”

Vargas previously spent time in a recovery center in November 2013 and then in early 2014, she spoke openly
about her alcoholism on “Good Morning America.” She said at the time,
“The amount of energy I expended keeping that secret and keeping this
problem hidden from view was exhausting. … Even to admit it to myself
was admitting, I thought, that I was a failure.”

Vargas’ tenure at ABC began in 1996 when she joined “Good Morning
America” as a newsreader. She began as a co-anchor for “20/20” in 2004.
