ABC has snatched up the rights to the unscripted show “Secret Millionaire,” which had a brief run last season on FOX.
The show follows wealthy people who go undercover in economically depressed areas and give some of their money to people in need. It did reasonably well for FOX last year. The network aired six episodes over a two-week period in December and averaged close to 7 million viewers.
FOX, however, let its option to pick up the show pass earlier in the summer, and producer RDF USA took the show to ABC, the showbiz trade papers report.
The Alphabet has ordered six more episodes of the show, which should fit in pretty well with ABC’s feel-good style of unscripted programming (a la “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “Supernanny”). No airdate has been set.
