hayley atwell agent carter 'Agent Carter' series 'has a chance,' plus ABC loves the Marvel Netflix dealABC could potentially have two Marvel series on its air in the near future. The network confirmed Friday (Jan. 17) it’s working on an “Agent Carter” series, centered on Hayley Atwell‘s character in the “Captain America” films — and that Atwell is signed for the part.

“In terms of ‘Agent Carter,’ the script’s come in,” ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee says at the TCA winter press tour. “It’s a really good script, written by [Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely,” who wrote both “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which is due in theaters in April. “So that one certainly has a chance to be on the network.”

The impetus for “Agent Carter” came from a Marvel One Shot short that was part of the “Iron Man 3” Blu-ray and followed Atwell’s character as a SHIELD operative post-World War II. Lee confirms Atwell is involved with the project, and her “First Avenger” co-star Dominic Cooper told Zap2it he “wouldn’t hesitate” to be part of the show as well.

The development of “Agent Carter” comes at the same time as Marvel and ABC Studios are working on four other Marvel shows for Netflix. Lee says the deal is a win-win for all involved.

“We’re thrilled to do that deal,” he says. “Of course that’s with our studio, so we with our studio will be co-producing many, many hours that can really deliver for the superfan. … We’re looking for big, broad plays that we can put on ABC and really make Marvel superfan shows for Netflix. We think it’s a great balance, and ABC Studios are excited and really enjoying it, as are Marvel.”
