Alec-Baldwin.jpgHe’s played politicians in film, but sometime in the not-too-distant future actor Alec Baldwin hopes to be one in real life. And the position he appears to be eying is Mayor of New York City.

During an interview on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Wednesday (Jan. 25), the host asked the politically-minded “30 Rock” star about his ambitions to run for the mayor’s office.

“That a possibility,” Baldwin says. “It’s been a dream of mine to hold office.”

But the biggest hang-up right now seems to be Baldwin’s TV and movie career. He explains that “30 Rock” has likely one more season before it ends. And then there are his other commitments, like the films “Lucky Them” and “The Normal Heart,” both of which are in pre-production.

“Right now the timetable I’m on work-wise, career-wise, contracts I’ve signed, would make running for mayor very difficult,” Baldwin says.

The fact that Baldwin may run at some point is a bit of a change for the actor. In Dec. 2011, he said on WNYC he was essentially scuttling any plans to seek office when Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s term ends in 2013.

“Give this up for what?” Baldwin pondered. “I give up money and fame and position and success; I give up this wonderful life I have now in exchange for the chance to ‘really change things?'”

Typical politician, flip-flopping already.
