Apparently Alec Baldwin was just trying to give a New York Daily News photographer a little camera advice and now the entire exchange has been blown wildly out of proportion. Or so he tells David Letterman on Wednesday’s (June 20) “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Baldwin stands accused (at least in the court of public opinion) of roughing a Daily News photographer who was laying in wait for him outside the Manhattan courthouse where he and fiance Hilaria Thomas had just secured a marriage license.

“I think you can see I’m forming the letter F with my mouth,” says Baldwin, pointing at the Daily News cover. “And what I’m saying is — I said to him as I walked up to him, ‘What F-stop are you on with the camera?’  And he said, ‘I’m on a something,’ and I said, ‘That’s not the F-stop … You have to set the camera on the right F-stop.'”

Letterman is Baldwin’s latest stop on the “parodying my rage-filled outburts” tour. In December 2011, he appeared on “Saturday Night Live” to poke fun at American Airlines for kicking him off of a flight for playing Words with Friends on his iPhone.
