Tyler Perry is breaking from his highly successfully formula this weekend by starring in a film that he did not direct, and is not a comedy. It’s also not any good, according to critics. “Alex Cross” has been panned by pretty much every outlet from the Village Voice to the Associated Press. The Los Angeles Times even compares the dialogue to “an ‘SNL’ skit gone south.” Ouch.
In light of the dismal box office outlook, Perry is taking it upon himself to get behinds in theater seats. He took to his blog to ask fans not only to go see the movie and tell friends they like it, but also to double check their ticket stubs to ensure he’s getting the credit.
So, basically this is the public’s chance to put an end to the Madea movies. Do you hear that, America? The gauntlet has been thrown.
