american horror story season 4 freak show frances conroy evan peters angela bassett 'American Horror Story' Season 4 cast weighs in on 'Freak Show' themeZap2it caught up with some of the cast of “American Horror Story” Season 4, subtitled “Freak Show,” at 2014 Paleyfest last Friday (March 28), where we asked them a few fun questions about the theme of the upcoming season.

Zap2it: Do you have any scary memories of a carnival or circus?

Angela Bassett: “When the lions always came out. … They got just a little rambunctious.”

Denis O’Hare: “I like circuses, I like the dark part of life, so what I have are lots of memories of being at night at a carnival where there was danger in the air. The carnie people were all kind of sexy and creepy, and they all had tattoos and the rides were all kind of rickety and scary and the food was forbidden. I love the whole forbidden part of that.”

Evan Peters: “I haven’t been to too many circuses, but I can’t wait to check [the season] out.”

Frances Conroy: “There was a little carnival in the town where I grew up, but it was fun. I don’t remember anything scary.”

Gabourey Sidibe: “I’ve seen a freak show or two before. I don’t know that it was like a real freak show, it was at Coney Island. I don’t think freak shows really exist anymore.”

If you could have any kind of prosthetic or certain character as part of the “freak show,” what would it be?

Bassett: “Oh, anything! I guess we could be the elephant woman/man … that stuff takes time, so I would like not to have too much of that.

O’Hare: “I want a misshapen head, something bulbous. … Like ‘Elephant Man.'”

Conroy: “The circus is a place of exotic stuff. No animals. No animals, please. … Let’s not have animals and entertainment, thank you.”

Jamie Brewer: “What would be really neat is an extra pair of arms … and using my arms and my whole body as a new human animal.”

“American Horror Story: Freak Show” premieres on FX in fall 2014.
