jessica lange american horror story coven premiere 'American Horror Story' Season 4 is 'not contemporary,' possibly staying in New Orleans

“American Horror Story: Coven” creator Ryan Murphy has dished a few tidbits to EW about next season. First off, he’ll start to drop hints about next year during “Coven” episode 11.

Secondly, he confirms it will not be contemporary and adds, “It’s either going to shoot in New Orleans or it’s going to shoot in Santa Fe.”

We wonder if that means they haven’t decided on the exact focus yet, since New Orleans and Santa Fe have two very different vibes to them. But perhaps not — settings can certainly be made to look any number of ways.

Do you have any guesses for what Murphy is thinking?

One thing you won’t be seeing next year is an “AHS: Coven” spinoff. Murphy confirms that that project is not happening — because of a “Coven” death.

“We were starting to break episode 8 or 9 and we were
like, ‘Well, we can’t kill that person off because we need them for the
spin-off,'”  says Murphy. “As soon as those words were said, I was like, ‘There is no
spin-off.’ Because it took away from the joy of the show. The reason the
show is successful is no one is safe ever.”

Episode 7 airs tonight (Nov. 20), so apparently we can look forward to a death in the next couple weeks. Juicy.

“American Horror Story: Coven” airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
