During a recent appearance to promote her holiday single, “Coming Out for Christmas,” “American Idol” Season 9 runner up Crystal Bowersox revealed she is bisexual.
“I’ve been bisexual for, I don’t know, as long as I can remember,” she says during an interview on “Good Day LA.” “I just remember being made fun of in junior high … It was something that was shameful and it really shouldn’t be.”
That’s where Bowersox found inspiration for her single. “I think 40 percent, check my facts, but 40 percent of the youth homeless population is LGBTQ and it’s simply because they’re not accepted by their families,” she explains. “They’re kicked out of their homes or feel shame and guilt.” Bowersox continues, “That’s not what the holidays are about … To me it’s about being with your family and being loved and accepted for who you are.”
Proceeds from “Coming Out for Christmas” are being donated to The Trevor Project, a LGBT organization.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
