Talks have begun between the show and the singer, according to E!News. While things are far from being certain, it isn’t too hard to believe that Connick would consider working on the show. He has appeared as a mentor and a musical guest multiple times in previous seasons and even sat in as a guest judge once.
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation that this is even a possibility.
On the other hand, it’s not like there is a lot of competition to sit next to Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the “Idol” stage. Producer and songwriter Dr. Luke had been widely rumored as a likely judge, but he ended up pulling out of the deal due to conflicting interests. Rumors remain that Scooter Braun — manager to Justin Bieber and others — is in contention, but he is not seen as having the time or a real interest.
When asked in the past about the possibility of judging “American Idol,” Connick has been positive but cautious. “I had a good time mentoring. Judging is a whole different deal,” he said in an interview on “Ellen.” “I don’t know how good I would be at that.”
Would he be good? Hopefully, we will get to find out.
