durbin flames 'American Idol': Jackson family allegedly offended by James Durbin's 'Pepsi moment' quipRemember Wednesday (March 30) evening when James Durbin literally set the “Idol” stage on fire with his take on Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting?”

At the end of an exhaustingly energetic performance, Durbin jumped off the top of a grand piano which then — BAM! — burst into flames on queue.

The first thought that went through our heads was, of course, Michael Jackson’s unfortunate run-in with pyrotechnics while filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984. Apparently Durbin was on the same wavelength, because when Ryan Seacrest asked him how he felt about his performance, Durbin replied, “I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it from jumping around — so much so, the one thing I was worried about was having a ‘Pepsi moment.'”

Less than 24 hours later and a “source” from the Jackson family has allegedly let it be known — via TMZ — that the family is displeased. Particularly Papa Joe Jackson, who was offended that the M.J. reference wasn’t dropped from the West coast “Idol” feed.

What do you think? Was Durbin out of line?
