Above are Urban’s pictures from a 2002 Playgirl spread, which Urban says falls into the “‘what the hell was I thinking’ category” of career choices. He’s also glad he plays guitar and not harmonica.

He also tells the tale of an awards show in Australia in the early 1990s where Keith and his band protested their exclusion from an awards category by performing in grunge get-ups, which Leno also had a clip of (pictured at right).

“These two are a nightmare,” says Seacrest, pointing to Keith and Randy.

“I was somewhat Switzerland for a moment,” says Urban, of sitting in between the two women.

“It’s a happy, dysfunctional family,” says Jackson.

But in all seriousness, Seacrest says, “We’re very happy they’re on the panel with us this season … these two ladies are not stars in their own right because they’re shy. So you’ll get a chance to see how ‘not shy’ they are.”

Watch the full interview below, it’s a fun one. “American Idol” premieres Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
