Gossip maven Perez Hilton is invading “American Idol” with a protege in tow.
Travis Garland, who was a boy band member of the now-defunct NLT, will make his debut on “Idol’s” Wednesday (May 19) show, reports the LA Times.
He’ll be backed by fellow Geffen Records label mates Street Drum Corps on the song “Believe,” produced by Nate “Danja” Hills.
The newcomer owes much to Hilton, who pulled strings with “Idol” producer Simon Fuller, whom he happens to be working with for their boy band search. Hilton is also expected to attend “Idol” to watch Garland perform.
“Believe” will also be released on iTunes the day before the performance. Garland’s album will drop later in 2010.
Fun trivia: Travis, who was born in Lubbock, Texas, isn’t the only one gaining fame on FOX. One of his former bandmates in NLT — which stands for Not Like Them — is Kevin McHale, who “Glee” fans know better as the wheelchair-bound Artie.
