chicago boyz americas got talent semifinals 'America's Got Talent' semifinals: Kristef Brothers' strong return to the competition“America’s Got Talent” showcased another 12 semifinalists this week on the way to naming its Top 12 for the big final showdown the next two weeks before it crowns a Season 8 winner. Who stood out this week for you?

We have to say, this was a very, very strong week. Considerably stronger than last week’s semifinals, for us. The judges were not exaggerating, this might be the strongest semifinal in the show’s history. They really didn’t divide the acts evenly between last week and this week.

For us, the strongest acts of the night were D’Angelo & Amanda, Chicago Boyz, Anna Christine, Kenichi Ebina, the Kristef Brothers and Jimmy Rose.

Timber Brown could have been in there, but his act this time around was a little convoluted and clunky. He’s so talented, though, that we would not be mad if he did advance in place of Rose.

Anyway, the dancers were sharp. D’Angelo & Amanda’s routine was great, especially the water part, and Kenichi’s video dance-off was innovative and clever.

The Kristef Brothers were on point (though we were disappointed to learn their swords were fake), Anna Christine sounded beautiful and the Chicago Boyz’ three-tiered jump roping actually made us say out loud before they started, “No [bleeping] way.” Very impressive.

And as far as the superior country singer goes, Jimmy Rose is our pick. We like his tone and emotion better than Marty Brown.

Unfortunately, we have another case of a Kevin Skinner on our hands in Marty Brown. Vocally, he is nothing special but considering how poorly he did last time and he still advanced, we expect him to advance this time too. Which means one of our choices will not advance and we fear that will be D’Angelo & Amanda.

Another act that might bump one of our choices is the Military Spouses Choir. They’re great and all, but we just don’t see it as a Vegas show. But this week, they actually welcomed an active duty sergeant as part of their group, which is hard to trump.

Nothing against the military or its spouses — this act totally makes us tear up every time they perform. We just don’t see this as a finalist act.

Leon Etienne and Romy
certainly crammed in a lot to their routine, but it just didn’t grab us. John Wing was not funny, and Brandon James biffed on his song choice with “Alone” in Italian.

So, those are our choices. Which six acts do you pick?
