“America’s Next Top Model” is apparently bringing the high fashion in Cycle 15, Tyra Banks has said that they were going there before, but now Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley, who is judging for his second cycle, is making sure it happens.
Our sources tell us that Leon Talley helped bring the bar up, something the show has wanted to do for a very long time. Not only has “Top Model” kicked Seventeen magazine to the curb, but they’ve stepped over its lifeless-yet-still-fresh-faced body to Vogue Italia.
And as the show has stepped up its game, it has bagged some heavyweights of the fashion world to judge, as well. Of course, we’ll have Vogue Italia’s editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani along with designers Roberto Cavalli, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen and Margherita Missoni, among others. Mr. Jay Manuel and Miss J. Alexander will return to serve up the sass again as creative director and runway coach, respectively.
The CW has released videos of all 14 contestants and we’ve picked our top three to watch:
Rhianna, 20, from San Diego, Calif.
We like Rhianna’s very classic features and odd style. She may fit in really well with the expectations of a high fashion model. Plus, her mother was a model, which means it could be in her genes (and she has been practicing for this her whole life).
Liz, 21, from Arlington, Texas
Liz’s look is the kind that “ANTM” (and the industry) seems to favor. She’s ambiguously ethnic and tall. We can’t tell for sure from the video, but she may have some issues about being a single mother, which is also a popular trend on the show. Her one downfall may be her muscular build, which isn’t very high fashion. We’ll have to see how soon she figures out how to pose to make her muscular frame less Fitness magazine and more Vogue Italia.
Kacey, 20, Palmdale, Calif.
We think Kacey has something. We’re not sure what it is, but she catches our eye. And something tells us that without the glasses and with some training, that something will make her a contender.
Esther, 18, Boston, Mass.
Esther is sort of dopey and that reminds us of Cycle 2’s third place finisher, Shandi. We think the pretty-ugly look (as Tyra refers to it) will work in Esther’s favor this cycle.
