anchorman-2-Parmount-passes-on-sequel.jpgIf you were waiting for the continuing tale of “Anchorman’s” Ron Burgundy on the San Diego airwaves, you may be waiting, well, forever.

According to Will Ferrell’s producing partner, Adam McKay, the studio isn’t going to fork over the money for a sequel.

“So bummed,” tweeted McKay. “Paramount basically passed on ‘Anchorman 2.’ Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.”

Movieline reports that Paramount asked McKay to cut the budget. McKay lowered the budget and even convinced stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd to return at reduced salaries. Yet, the studio still passed.

We wonder if taking this public was McKay’s way of putting pressure on Paramount. It’s a typical move in Hollywood to leak news to get public support when a deal is at a stalemate. Plus, it seems Paramount is “Anchorman 2’s” only avenue.

“To all who asked,” McKay followed up on Twitter. “No we can’t do ‘Anchorman 2’ at another studio. Paramount owns it.”

Do you think McKay played his cards right by taking this public?
