andy cohen miss universe boycott gi Andy Cohen boycotting Miss Universe over Russia's anti gay law

Don’t expect to see Andy Cohen co-host the Miss Universe pageant this year. The regular co-host in years past has turned down the gig because of the fact it’s being held in Russia.

In June, a new law was passed in Russia that made it illegal to spread “propaganda for non-traditional sexual relations” to minors, which prevents the public discussion of homosexual relationships and rights around children. Cohen is boycotting the Miss Universe pageant because it’s being held in a country whose “discriminatory policies make it unsafe for the gays who live there and gays coming to work or visit.”

“The law is that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested,” Cohen tells Giuliana Rancic, his Miss Universe co-host in 2011 and 2012, on “Watch What Happens Live.” He adds that he “didn’t feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia.”

This is Russia’s first time hosting Miss Universe. It will be held on Nov. 9 at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow.
