andy roddick 2012 us open gi Andy Roddick's potential final match postponed as U.S. Open is rained outTennis champ Andy Roddick has announced that he plans to retire following the 2012 U.S. Open, so every match he plays at the tournament could potentially be his last as a professional player. But Roddick’s career won’t end on Tuesday, Sept. 4, as his match against Juan Martin del Potro was rained out and will continue on Wednesday.

According to ESPN, Roddick was in the lead after a tiebreaker in his first set when the rain at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens became so disruptive that officials delayed the match. He’ll ideally pick up the game on Wednesday, Sept. 5, although rain is in the forecast again so who knows if the weather will cooperate.

The Roddick/del Potro match wasn’t the only one hit with a rain delay — Maria Sharapova and Marion Bartoli will resume their game on Wednesday as well.

“I’ve decided that this is going to be my last tournament,” Roddick announced in a press conference ahead of the Open. “I just feel like it’s time.”

Do you think Roddick can beat del Potro? Will you be sad to see him leave tennis?
