UPDATE 4:30 p.m. ET: Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, has confirmed the engagement to USA Today. “It’s a promise for the future and their kids are very happy,” she says. No date is set.
How do we know? Because Robert Procop, the jeweler who made the ring spotted on Jolie’s finger at an event Wednesday (April 11), is telling everyone.
“I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt,” the ringmaker’s publicist tells The Hollywood Reporter. (Us Weekly and People quickly followed up on the story.) Neither Jolie nor Pitt, however, has said anything about an engagement — and @AngiesRightLeg is also silent on the matter as of this posting.
Jolie was spotted wearing the ring Wednesday as she, Pitt and son Pax attended a private viewing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Chinese galleries. Procop’s rep then did what any good publicist does and got the client’s name into the media.
Procop, incidentally, collaborated with Jolie on a collection called The Style of Jolie, and she’s worn a number of his pieces on various red carpets over the years.
If the engagement reports turn out to be true, cheers to Brad and Angelina. And even if they don’t, well played, Procop. Well played.
