anger management review fx 'Anger Management' gets 90 episode pickup from FX, returns in JanuaryCharlie Sheen‘s “Anger Management” sessions will continue for some time.

FX announced Wednesday (Aug. 29) that the show will get 90 more episodes after meeting the ratings threshold the network set for its initial run this summer. The show goes back into production on Sept. 24 and will begin airing new episodes in January.

The pickup was widely expected. Last month at the TCA press tour, FX president and general manager John Landgraf said the odds were “overwhelming” that “Anger Management” would meet the ratings goals to trigger the 90-episode order.

Sheen and the cast and crew will produce the 90 episodes over two years, with the goal of selling the show in broadcast syndication for fall 2014.

“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for ‘Anger Management’ to earn its back-90 order, and the series met and exceeded those metrics,” says Chuck Saftler, executive vice president of FX Networks.

After a record-setting premiere in June (which wasn’t counted as part of the ratings target), the show’s ratings leveled off but remained pretty solid. Its 10 episode-run averaged 4.5 million viewers and 2.5 million adults 18-49, making it the top-rated new comedy on cable in 2012.
