aretha franklin Aretha Franklin responds to health rumors: 'I don't know where 'pancreatic cancer' came from'The Queen of Soul is still keeping mum on exactly what ails her following a mystery December surgery, but on Friday (Jan. 14) Aretha Franklin opens up about the rumors swirling around her current condition.

“I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from,” she tells pal, Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson. “I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

Franklin has kept quiet regarding her current condition, so why is she suddenly addressing the rumors?

“Well, there was just so many wild things out there and just so many things said that weren’t true,” she explains. “I just felt I needed to address it a little.”

The 68-year-old adds that she didn’t initially know what was causing her such pain.

“I went through a number of procedures before I knew what was wrong,” she says. “The pain was so hard it almost brought me to my knees … I just began to not feel good and I said, ‘Oh, no this is it, I can’t do any more concerts till I know what the problem is.'”

Thankfully, she assures Robinson that we can expect to see many more years of her talent.

“[The doctor] said, ‘The surgery that you just had is going to add 15 to 20 more years to your life,'” Franklin happily reports.

The legendary singer is up for a Grammy, and though she doesn’t plan to attend the ceremony, she does have plans to resume her postponed tour come spring.

“My concerts don’t start until May and then I’m going to reschedule Washington, Virginia and Kansas City,” she says. “Those are some of the places I had to cancel because of the procedure I had to have.”

Oh, and a bonus? The plus-sized chanteuse is down to a size 16-18 and couldn’t be happier, adding “It’s getting better every day. I plan on keeping this weight that I have now — I’m so happy with it.”
