Watch the first three seasons of “Arrested Development” on Netflix. Today we’re covering the Season 1 episode “Shock and Aww,” which premiered March 7, 2004.

“Shock and Aww” sees GOB continuing to think he and Michael are rivals in the dating world, after the whole Marta thing. Meanwhile, Michael starts dating George Michael’s Ethics teacher.

Plot: George Michael is in love with his Ethics teacher, Ms. Beth Barely, but Lindsey mistakenly thinks he likes her in a mom-figure kind of way. So Lindsey encourages Michael to ask her out and the two begin dating, which leads to George Michael heartbreak, GOB sleeping with the old, ugly Civics teacher and Ms. Barely eventually dumping Michael because she’s not really into kids. Meanwhile, Lucille’s adopted son Annyong (“Hello”) arrives from Korea, making Buster insanely jealous. And George Bluth Sr. gets a visit from Cindi Lightballoon, who claims to be a fan of his self-help videos, “Caged Wisdom,” but is actually running a sting operation on him.

Bluth Company status: The company is not mentioned at all in this episode.

Notable guest stars: Heather Graham as Ethics teacher Beth Barely, Jane Lynch as Cindi Lightballoon and “Glee’s” Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba) as ugly woman Nazhgalia.

Memorable line:
Lucille: “I don’t have the milk of mother’s kindness in me anymore.”
Michael: “Yeah, that udder’s been dry for a while, hasn’t it?”

Milestones: Michael hooks up with a woman for the first time since his wife died when Ms. Barely sleeps over.

Most sexual tension: Lindsey inadvertently makes George Michael think she wants him sexually when she’s talking about being a mom figure to him.

Allusions to Tobias being gay: None, Tobias is MIA this episode.

Best narrator commentary: “Michael was sharing his bed for the first time in years. Unfortunately, it was with his younger brother, Buster.”

Next on “Arrested Development”: Annyong gets to do whatever he wants at Lucille’s, much to Buster’s consternation — so he starts a fire, accidentally.
