MTV announced Wednesday that their summer hit “Awkward” has been renewed for a “supersized” Season 3. While a typical “Awkward” season has had 10 episodes, MTV is upping Season 3 to twenty.
“Lauren Iungerich’s creative vision, coupled with this extraordinarily talented cast, make ‘Awkward’ the perfect series for MTV,” says Head of Programming David Janollari. “Critics and our audience alike have fallen in love with ‘Awkward,’ and we’re thrilled to bring this terrific series back for a third, supersized season.”
Iungerich told Zap2it that she doesn’t see “Awkward” taking Jenna, Jake, Matty, and the rest of the gang out of high school.
“I think Awkward is a 4 or 5 season show. I don’t want to see them go to college. It’s this period of time, these friendships, these relationships,” she says — noting that she has decided what the last scene of the show will be, when that time comes. “I do know the last scene though. I know exactly what I want to say, and how I want to say it, and who I want to be in that scene.”
