A new two and a half minute trailer for the upcoming A&E series “Bates Motel” — inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” — is giving us the most in-depth look yet at the show’s style. And we like what we see.
Freddie Highmore stars as young Norman Bates and Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga is his screwed-up mother, Norma. As Farmiga explains in the trailer: “We’re not remaking Psycho, we’re using it as an inspiration.”
Executive producer Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) notes that the show is set in a “contemporary world,” and fellow e.p. Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) promises a lot of “twists and turns.” That seems obvious already from the creepy, action-packed and wonderfully mysterious trailer.
“You don’t think about the future, or what’s gonna happen when you grow up?” asks Norman’s teacher (Keegan Connor Tracy). The question is chilling.
