The network has ordered 10 episodes of “Copper,” an immigrant drama about an Irish cop working in 19th century New York.
Co-created by “Oz” mastermind Tom Fontana (pictured) and Will Rokos (“Southland”), “Copper” is slated for a summer 2012 premiere and, quite hilariously, starts shooting in Toronto, Canada, this fall.
No casting announcements were made, but BBC America general manager Perry Simon did express his excitement over the big news for the network.
“In the spirit of great BBC drama it’s brimming with fascinating and complex characters giving us the opportunity to cast the best actors from both sides of the Atlantic,” he says in the official release, adding in person that he wanted to make sure the network’s first foray into scripted programming wouldn’t follow a “London cop who gets transferred to Las Vegas.”
And we thank him for that.
