After her role as Amanda on “Ugly Betty,” Becki Newton may not be the name that comes to mind when you think of a virginal ingenue. That’s all going to change this fall when her new show, “Love Bites” premieres on NBC.
Zap2it caught up with Becki at NBC’s Upfront presentation in New York
City on Monday (May 17). Newton says that Annie, her “Love Bites” character, is
different from Amanda “in every way. She has self-respect. She
doesn’t wear clothing that’s too small for her, and in general is a hopeless romantic, so it’s actually polar opposite.”
Ever the diplomat, Newton makes sure to add, “I love them both equally.”
“Bites” is an anthology-style show, which is a gamble for NBC since the format hasn’t been seen on broadcast before. The hour-long episodes will round out NBC’s Thursday comedy line-up, which has been its strongest night.
We’re hoping Newton brings the same spark and spunk to Annie that she brought to “Ugly Betty’s” Amanda… even if Annie doesn’t have the same level of, uh, experience.
