If Ben Affleck‘s amazing movies over the past few years haven’t swayed your opinion of the man formerly known as one half of Bennifer, then you should definitely check out The Hollywood Reporter’s cover story on the “Argo” director.
You’ll learn plenty about a man who’s been in the public eye for the past two decades, which seems kind of hard after all those years in the spotlight. While discussing his sure-to-be Oscar contender “Argo,” Affleck also opens up about his wife, Jennifer Garner, his BFF, Matt Damon, and admits that he still keeps in touch with at least three of his exes (Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow and his high school sweetheart).
In the profile, Affleck reveals that he and Lopez still have a friendly relationship, often emailing each other about important career events. “I remember when she got ‘American Idol.’ I said: ‘This was really smart. Good luck.’ I touch base. I respect her. I like her,” Affleck explains. “She’s put up with some stuff that was unfair in her life, and I’m really pleased to see her successful.”
The actor-turned-director also talks about his friendship with Damon, and how they live down the street from each other and hang out together more than is probably healthy for two grown men, and says some truly lovely things about his wife.
“She truly is kind,” he says of Garner. “She means no one any harm. She doesn’t have ill will for any person. She’s not competitive with other people. She’s not spiteful. It’s one of those things where it becomes almost aggravating at times. Every time I go, ‘F– him!’ I see in her face that she just thinks that’s petty and small.”
