benicio del toro no trek gi Benicio Del Toro drops out of 'Star Trek' sequelThe “Star Trek” sequel is looking for a new bad guy.

Benicio Del Toro, who has been attached to the movie for the past month or so, has dropped out. Vulture reports the deal fell apart last week over money.

Director J.J. Abrams is scheduled to start filming the sequel in January, so there’s not a ton of time to find a replacement. Abrams has said Del Toro would be playing a villain “Star Trek” fans already know but hasn’t named names.

A number of reports, however, said the “Traffic” and “Wolfman” star was set to play Khan, who was played by Ricardo Montalban in the original series and the second “Trek” movie in 1982. Abrams denied it, but Vulture also reports now that Khan will be the primary adversary for Kirk and Co. this time out.

So the question now is, if Khan is in fact the villain, who would you cast? If he weren’t busy making the next James Bond movie, we’d say Javier Bardem would be a great fit. Give us your suggestions in the comments.
