Murphy has teamed up with writer-producer Shawn Ryan (“The Shield,” “Last Resort”) to pitch a show that would focus on Axel Foley’s son, who moves to Beverly Hills to escape the shadow of his father (Murphy), now the chief of police in Detroit.
Murphy would be an executive producer of the series and be on-screen for the pilot, reports Vulture, which broke the news about the project. He might also appear in subsequent episodes.
Murphy and Ryan are pitching the show to networks this week. It’s described as a procedural with heavy doses of comedy.
Murphy has been toying with the idea of a “Beverly Hills Cop” series for the better part of a year. He told Rolling Stone last fall that he was more interested in a series than a fourth movie in the franchise.
Murphy has produced a handful of TV projects in the past, but none in the past decade. His last series was the animated series “The PJs” (for which he also did voice work), which ran on FOX and The WB from 1999-2001.
What do you think of the idea of a “Beverly Hills Cop” series? Who should play Axel Foley’s son?
