Acclaimed director Blake Edwards passed away Thursday (Dec. 16) at the age of 88. According to the New York Times, wife Julie Andrews and their children were at his side in Santa Monica, CA.

The above video is Blake talking about meeting Julie in Beverly Hills: “I met Julie in a wonderfully kind of Hollywood movie story kind of way. It started in the morning with me going into Beverly Hills, she coming out of Beverly Hills and we would stop in the middle lane on Sunset waiting for traffic and then go on. Two or three times and I kept looking over and three or four days a week she would be there. And one morning I said, “Hi.” … It was all kind of meant to be.”

Below are two of their collaborations, the very successful “Victor/Victoria” and the relatively unknown box office flop “Darling Lili.”

What a wonderful Hollywood couple. Rest in peace, Blake Edwards. Our condolences to Julie Andrews and all your other family and friends.
