bob perry dies fairuse Bob Perry dies: Republican mega donor was 80 years old

Bob Perry, a philanthropist and home builder, died Saturday at age 80, the Texas Tribune reports. His death was confirmed by Neal T. “Buddy” Jones, a lobbyist and former Texas state representative, who said Perry passed in his sleep. “Bob Perry was a friend to many, many people all over the United States, and he was a true patriot. He will be sorely missed,” Jones adds.
During his lifetime, Perry was known as a major financial contributor for conservative candidates. During the 2012 election cycle, he gave over $23 million to Super PACs, as well as $1.5 million to Texas governor Rick Perry (no relation) during the 2010 election.
In a statement from Governor Perry, he says, “Bob Perry was an exceptional man of great faith who believed strongly in everything he put his mind and soul into, and nothing more so than his family.”
Perry was born and raised in Texas, attending Baylor University. Before founding Perry Homes in 1968, he was a high school history teacher. Perry is survived by his wife and four grown children.
