About 15 seconds into the trailer for “Boss,” the new Starz series in which he plays the lead role, Kelsey Grammer says the following line:
“Spectators stand on the sidelines, lacking the b**ls to do this job.”
So, it’s safe to say this is nowhere near Grammer’s usual on-screen persona. In “Boss,” he plays Chicago Mayor Tom Kane, who uses his power to do right by the people of the city — and also to keep his power. (Oh, and he’s also hiding a degenerative neurological condition that he’s hiding, so as not to seem vulnerable.)
“Boss” also stars Connie Nielsen as Kane’s wife, Kathleen Robertson as his political aide, Martin Donovan as his chief of staff, Hannah Ware as his estranged daughter and Jeff Hephner as a political rival. It premieres at 10 p.m. ET Friday, Oct. 21 on Starz.
Here’s the trailer. What do you think? Does Grammer pull off the drama, and will you be watching “Boss”?
