real housewives of new york city bravo Bravo threatens to cancel 'Real Housewives of New York' over salary standoff Is that such a bad thing?Bravo’s ladies of the Big Apple might soon find themselves out of a job if all six cast members of “The Real Housewives of New York City” continue to balk at the new contracts presented by the network.

The Hollywood Reporter, err, reports that the network has threatened to pull the plug on the venerable series, the second-oldest in the franchise, if the ladies don’t come around. A source says that stars LuAnn de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer, Aviva Drescher, Carole Radziwill and Heather Thomson have all refused to sign. “What’s currently on the table is unacceptable,” a source close to the women says.

Production on the show’s sixth season was due to begin on Wednesday (May 8), but none of the women showed.

While the series likely still has plenty of fans, the last season indicated it might have been on its last legs, anyway. Season 5, which saw the addition of Drescher, Radziwill and Thomson, was the lowest-rated in the series’ history and only counted deLesseps and Singer among original cast members still standing. Though other iterations in the franchise have undergone countless cast shakeups, “RHONY” never seemed to recover from the loss of original stars Bethenny Frankel and Jill Zarin, not to mention the drama they brought.

It might be time to close up shop in the Empire State, or start entirely from scratch. THR notes that it’s not clear whether a cancellation would prevent a future iteration with an entirely different cast, but that might be the route the network should go — especially if the current cast won’t play ball.

What do you think about the fate of “The Real Housewives of New York City”? Would you be disappointed if Bravo canceled the show?
