breaking bad 911 calls 'Breaking Bad' fans call 911 over cable outage in ConnecticutThis is how seriously some people are treating the final episodes of “Breaking Bad”: The loss of cable service in part of Connecticut Sunday night (Aug. 18) resulted in numerous 911 calls.

The Fairfield, Conn., Police Department was not amused. In a post on its Facebook page (which as of this posting had been removed), the department notes that loss of cable service is “neither an emergency or a police related concern” and reminded people they could be prosecuted for jamming up the 911 system with frivolous calls.

To be fair, it probably wasn’t just “Breaking Bad” watchers calling the police Sunday. ESPN was airing a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game, and FOX had an NFL preseason contest involving the New York Giants. Fairfield is about 50 miles from New York City.

Cablevision, which provides cable service in the area, says a power outage at one of its facilities was to blame for the lost service and things were up and running by 11 p.m. ET — in time for people to record the late-night replay of “Breaking Bad.” The episode airs again on AMC in the wee hours Tuesday and Thursday and right before the new episode on Sunday, Aug. 25.
