One of the stars of “Breaking Bad” has lined up her next TV role.
Anna Gunn, who plays Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) wife, Skyler, on the AMC series, will play the title role in “Rita,” one of two scripted pilots in development at Bravo. The cable channel is moving back into scripted programming for the first time in about a decade.
“Rita” is an adaptation of a Danish series about a teacher at a private school (Gunn) who’s raising three teenage kids and dealing with the headaches of her job. Krista Vernoff (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Charmed”) wrote the pilot.
“Breaking Bad” is in the midst of filming its final episodes, which will air this summer. Gunn’s other credits include “Deadwood” and “The Practice.”
More pilot casting news:
– NBC has recast two roles in its comedy pilot “The Gates” following a table read. Aasif Mandvi (“The Daily Show”) and Justin Chon (“Twilight”) are out, and Greg Germann (“Ally McBeal,” “Raising Hope”) and Echo Kellum (“Ben and Kate”) are in.
“The Gates” centers on the pickup and dropoff times at an elementary school and the interactions of the parents, students and teachers. It also stars Ken Marino (“Party Down”) and Kathleen Rose Perkins (“Episodes”).
– Rob Riggle is deep in talks to play the lead role in FOX’s comedy “The Gabriels” (formerly “House Rules”). He would play the patriarch of a family that’s out of step with the kind and peaceable vibe of the Midwestern town where they live. The “Daily Show” alum’s recent credits include “NTSF:SD:SUV,” “New Girl” and “21 Jump Street.”
