As season four of Desperate Housewives rolled to its Spring finale last year, rumors that Nicollette Sheridan was leaving the show spread on the web. But when I checked with Ms. Sheridan's publicist in May, she was mum and politely told me that her client wasn't doing interviews at the moment. Of course, Sheridan's character Edie Britt actually returned to Wisteria Lane in the Fall, and being newly married to the show's current villain, she's actually been quite a prominent part of the series this season. Still, it seems the rumors of her departure weren't without merit. Early this afternoon, E! Online first reported that she will in fact be leaving the show (and it sounds as though her scary onscreen husband will play no small part in her peace out). ABC has since confirmed.
With all the Katherine Heigl and TR Knight departure press the alphabet net got yesterday, I assume their publicity department is a little busy at the moment, so I suppose it's nice they're being so forthcoming about this exit.
Will you miss Edie Britt? I'll admit, I quite enjoy my Housewives time on Sunday. With the exception of that trainwreck second season, I think the show is pretty strong. I just hope Sheridan's departure doesn't leave a big hole.
