bruno mars grammy Bruno Mars pleads guilty to cocaine charge, avoids jail timeFresh off his Grammy win, Bruno Mars appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom Thursday (Feb. 16) to plead guilty to cocaine possession.

For his sentencing, Mars was hit with probation, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service and eight hours with a Los Angeles drug counselor. Assuming Mars obeys the terms of his probation, he will avoid jail time and have a clean record.

If he violates the agreement, the “Grenade” singer will face up to four years in the clink.

Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, was arrested Sept. 19 with 2.6 grams of cocaine following a nightclub performance the the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas. He told the arresting officer that he had never used drugs before.

Just days after their Grammy Performance, Elektra Records announced that Mars will team up with Janelle Monae to headline a North American Tour called “Hooligans in Wondaland.”
