bryce harper baseball bat injury Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals gets 10 stitches after hitting his own face with a batOuch.

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper doesn’t have any home runs in his career yet, but he does have an impressive statistic on his record: He had to get ten stitches after nailing himself in the face with a baseball bat during Friday’s game.

Frustrated after making an out in the 7th inning, Harper apparently hit a wall in the dugout tunnel with his bat — which ricocheted off the wall and came back to smack him in the face, right above his left eye. The Washington Post said it sent “copious blood” gushing immediately.

“Harper sheepishly emerged from the trainers room late Friday night, a
golf ball-sized welt protruding from his forehead and clumps of blood
in his hair,” they report.

“I just got caught up in the moment,” says Harper. “I want to do so well. It just got me. It started bleeding and I was like, ‘Ah, crap.’ Stitched it up as fast as I can and go back out to the outfield.” Harper says his doctor has given him the okay to play, but Manager Davey Johnson suggests that he may miss a game or two.
