campbell brown2 Campbell Brown leaves CNN because you weren't watching herIt’s OK. Don’t feel bad. Campbell Brown already knows you weren’t watching her. That’s why she’s quitting.

The  host of CNN’s “Campbell Brown” has stepped down from the toughest timeslot in cable news due to her low ratings.

“Simply put, the ratings for my program are not where I would like them to be,” Brown says in a statement she released on Tuesday (May 18) . “It is largely for this reason that I am stepping down as anchor of CNN’s ‘Campbell Brown.’ “

Brown had been considering quitting “for some time” and she didn’t want to lie about why.

]]>Nancy Grace” and MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.” And that’s a very tough slot! While Brown  praised the “incredible talents” of her 8 p.m. cable news competitors, she didn’t feel ike she had the chops to compete with the other — how shall we put this — more outspoken talking heads. “Shedding my own journalistic skin to try to inhabit the kind of persona that might co-exist in that line up is simply impossible for me,” she said. “It is not who I am or who I want to be; nor is it who CNN asked me to be at any point.” Brown used to be a correspondent on “NBC Nightly News” and a co-anchor on the network’s “Weekend Today.” Follow Zap2it on Twitter and Zap2it on Facebook for the latest TV, movie and celebrity news.
