tvfash911 Carnie Wilson of 'Karaoke Battle USA'In a world where
size zero wasn’t small enough, double zero was invented. It’s enough to make
women who wear a size 8 feel enormous.

Adding to the
pressure is anything above a size 12 is considered plus-sized. By then so many
women feel they should wear only subdued solids and often wear clothes too big,
hoping it camouflages them.

Then there’s
Carnie Wilson. The singer, writer, and judge of ABC’s “Karaoke Battle USA” has
a fun look that costumer Warren Baker describes as “elegant but flouncy and
almost whimsical. I just wanted to give her a whole new image.”

“With Carnie I
kind of didn’t want to go for anything traditional, or anything people would
expect her in,” Baker says. “I wanted to play with prints, and I am a big fan
of purple.”

Wilson, who has
been public about her struggle with obesity, says, “After I had kids I had so
much trouble. And being 43, it is really hard to lose weight. I don’t show my
arms. I don’t wear things that are too tight.

“My style is
kind of polished,” she continues. “I love a leopard print. I am wearing a
sundress to the floor, one of those, almost like a lizard print, black and
white and lavender, and I am wearing a sweater jacket, hot pink, over it. I
like color. I like an accessory that’s flashy. For this show we are doing
really beautiful dresses with a great print and splashing with an amazing

Wilson’s dresses
on the show are from Adrianna Papell and Donna Morgan. Baker shops for her at
Nordstrom and Macy’s.

He often tops a
print dress with a cardigan from Karen Kane.

“They do really
cool kind of sequined jackets that are kind of chic and interesting patterns or
styles, where edges are frayed and really floaty,” Baker says.

He finds her
jewelry at Charles Albert.

“They are kind
of like prehistoric rocks” that are strung together “on a necklace and quite
heavy but incredible to look at.”

Baker’s advice
to larger women is to look for materials that have some give to them.

“There are some
really gorgeous fabrics,” he says. “Just keep everything neat and clean. And
some fabrics out there, if there is too much stretch, or shows too much, it can
get a little bit messy.”

And never forget the accessories. Off camera, Wilson says, “I love
myself a really nice bag. I love Gucci, Chanel, and Dolce & Gabbana, and
there is nothing better than a Louis Vuitton. I love the name brands because I
am a whore for that. I learned some big lessons with spending, so I will shop
anywhere. I will shop at Forever 21. I like to mix and match, and I will find
some great pieces at the Gap.”
