Ramamurthy, who plays Mohinder Suresh on “Heroes,” has taken a role in the network’s drama pilot “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer,” joining David Tennant, Abigail Spencer and Jeffrey Tambor in the cast. Jane Curtin has also signed on.
The Hollywood Reporter says that “Rex” is in second position to “Heroes” for Ramamurthy, meaning that “Heroes” would take precedence if both shows wind up on NBC’s schedule next season. (Both shows come from NBC sibling Universal Media Studios.)
Ramamurthy has been absent from the past couple episodes of “Heroes”; when we last saw him, Suresh was being checked into a mental hospital by Hiro (Masi Oka) in attempt to hide Suresh from villain Samuel (Robert Knepper).
“Rex Is Not Your Lawyer” stars Tennant (“Doctor Who”) as an attorney whose panic attacks make him unable to argue before a judge; he then switches to coaching clients on how to represent themselves. Ramamurthy will play a colleague and friend who’s secretly in love with Rex’s fiancee (Spencer).
“SNL” alum Curtin (“I Love You, Man,” TNT’s “Librarian” movies) will play Rex’s mom, a law professor who has a thing for her son’s therapist (Tambor).
– Elsewhere, “True Blood” has cast Marshall Allman and Shannon Lucio — both veterans of “Prison Break” — in roles for the show’s third season.
The HR reports that Allman will be a regular on the HBO series, playing Sam’s (Sam Trammell) long-lost younger brother. He’s the second new regular to join the show for season 3, after Denis O’Hare.
Lucio, who recurred on “Prison Break” and has guested on “The O.C.” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” will guest-star as Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) wife from his pre-vampire life. She takes over the part from Amber Dawn Landrum, who guested on the show’s first season.
“True Blood” is scheduled to begin shooting its new season this week and will return to HBO next summer.
