castle shifts schedule boston marathon bombing stana katic still abc 'Castle' delays a bomb themed episode, 'Still,' because of Boston Marathon explosions

This really isn’t the best time to watch bombs explode on television. For that reason, “Castle” has chosen to delay the episode originally scheduled for Monday, April 22. The episode in question, “Still,” has a bomb-related story as its central crime. ABC will switch this episode with “The Squab and the Quail,” an episode originally scheduled for the following week, April 29.

In “Still,” the team has to scramble to defuse a pressure bomb after Detective Beckett (Stana Katic) triggers it. While Beckett cannot move, Castle (Nathan Fillion) sticks around to keep her company.

Because of the thematic similarity between this plot and the bombings that occurred during the Boston Marathon on Monday (April 15), “Still” will be delayed.”

“The Squab and the Quail” will air in the “Castle” slot of April 22 instead. In this episode, we deal only with your standard murder and with the jealousy Castle feels when Beckett has to work with a tempting “other man.”

This flip does mean that there will be a few continuity issues for the two episodes. Hopefully, we won’t end up too confused going into the “Castle” Season 5 finale on May 13. That episode, titled “Watershed,” should go forward as planned.

With regard to the change, Katic posted a comment on her Twitter page:

“ABC Pulls Monday’s Bomb-Themed #Castle … Yes. Out of respect. Please note that the chronology will b off.”

Interestingly, “Castle” has already done an episode that has distinct similarities to the tragic Boston Marathon bombing. The Season 4 episode, “47 Seconds,” dealt with a homemade bomb triggered to explode during a “Occupy Wall Street”-esque protest. Deaths and high numbers of injuries were the result of the fictional bombing.
