enricocolantoni flashpoint 290 CBS renews 'Flashpoint'; Mark Burnett heads to 'Fantasy Island'CBS has picked up 13 more episodes of its cop drama “Flashpoint,” giving the network another programming option for later in the season.

The show, a joint production with Canadian network CTV, has been in limbo in the United States since the end of last season. CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler told reporters in August that while the network has nine episodes in the can to air this season, it had no plans at that time to produce more.

That has obviously changed now. The 13-episode pickup announced Tuesday brings the total number of new episodes destined to air on CBS to 22. There’s no word yet about a premiere date or where it will land on the schedule.

“Flashpoint,” which stars Enrico Colantoni, Hugh Dillon, Amy Jo Johnson and David Paetkau, has been a good utility player for CBS. It averaged about 8 million viewers during a summer run in 2008 and 9.5 million when it joined the network’s regular Friday lineup partway through last season.

Other TV news:

“Survivor” and “The Apprentice” producer Mark Burnett wants to turn the Aaron Spelling series “Fantasy Island” into a reality show.

Burnett and Sony Pictures TV announced the idea Monday and are hoping to find potential buyers. The show would be a competition in which 12 people vie to become the new Mr. or Ms. Roarke, Variety reports.

The contestants would work to fulfill guests’ dreams, and the guests will then rate the players on how well they did, sending one person home each week.

The original “Fantasy Island” starred Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize and aired from 1978-84 on ABC. The network remade the series in 1998 with Malcolm McDowell, but it lasted only a few months.
