Despite an Internet rumor to the contrary, the singer is alive and well and promoting her new album. She even showed up to sing and play silly games with Hugh Laurie on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
So why did people think that Dion had passed away?
According to Contactmusic.com, rogue apps on Facebook began posting ads that linked to supposed articles about Celine Dion’s death by car accident. Users who clicked on the links saw faked CNN or Fox News articles on the subject.
Meanwhile, the apps posted the news on all of the user’s friends’ pages. The idea behind this is to get the joke on every Facebook page.
Alas for the pranksters — and thankfully for Celine Dion fans — the French-Canadian singer is promoting her new album, “Loved Me Back to Life,” and therefore showed up on Monday’s (Oct. 28) “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
After a short interview and a very silly “Musical Password” game, Dion performed a single from her album, which will in turn be released on Nov. 5.
She was very much alive for all of this.
