chevy chase community dand nbc Chevy Chase says 'Community' was a 'mistake,' sitcoms are 'the lowest form of television'Talk about biting the hand that feeds you — noted troublemaker Chevy Chase has gone on the offensive against his current job, star of NBC’s “Community,” yet again, calling it a “mistake” and sitcoms in general “the lowest form of television.”

The beginning of the end of creator Dan Harmon’s time on the show came when he leaked a voicemail of Chase cursing him out after the Season 3 wrap party, leading people to speculate whether it was Chase’s final season on the show (though obviously it worked out poorly for Harmon, not the actor). He told The Huffington Post that he’s always had creative issues with “Community” and didn’t expect to stick around for much longer.

Now, Chase is at it again, telling The Huffington Post U.K. that he ultimately regrets signing on to do the show, despite the fact that he loved the pilot. “It was a big mistake,” he says of agreeing to play community college student Pierce Hawthorne. “I saw this pilot script, thought that it was funny, and … they hired me and I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread every week so I can take care of them in the way they want.”

Why does he hate it so much? “The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”

He respects his costars, but naturally only compliments them in the most backhanded way possible. “I think the reason I have stuck around is because I love these kids, the cast — they are very good. It’s not like I am working with the great innovators of all time, but at the same time, they are my friends.”

One of the reasons Chase has a problem with “Community” but cherished his time on
“Saturday Night Live” is because he feels the college setting is very creatively limiting. “One of the things that bothers me about our show is that it is placed in that study room all the time, with the same light, the same color,” he says. “Thats’ not interesting to see a lot. It’s just joke after joke after joke around that table.”

What do you think of Chase’s latest comments against “Community”? Should he have come back for Season 4?
