christina aguilera voice Christina Aguilera to be musician coach on NBC's 'The Voice'How’s that for good timing?

Despite her recent arrest, NBC’s new musical competition series “The Voice” has selected Christina Aguilera to be one of their musician coaches. The five-time Grammy winner joins previously announced coaches Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green.

“I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it,” Aguilera says. “To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists’ careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms. I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to ‘The Voice.'”

Why did executive producer Mark Burnett chose Aguilera to be a coach? “Christina has a perfect voice and is an undeniable force in the music business. She is the epitome of ‘The Voice.'”

Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, alternative programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios, says “Christina has a once in a generation talent — her voice is phenomenally distinctive and instantly recognizable. Her journey as an artist, who started so young in the music business, will be an inspiration to the talent she coaches on the show.”

The show, hosted by Carson Daly, will have four famous musician coaches each select singers to mentor into artists during the blind auditions (the coaches will not see what they look like thanks to rotating chairs). The coaches will then bring in their team of songwriters, producers and friends to help their team of singers evolve. After three stages of competition (blind audition, battle phase and live peromance shows), America will ultimately decide which singer is worthy of the grand prize.

“The Voice” premieres on Tuesday, April 26, at 9 pm EST on NBC.
